A large set of 4 silver gilt mounted rock crystal cabochon buttons set on Mauveine silk velvet. Accompanied by a note reading:
“To the Misses JDB & MBB, As now the chemists magic charms have crystallised these sacred treasures, Long may they glitter on your arms, And prove the source of constant pleasures.”
Boxed by Thomas Harding & Sons - 108 regent street, the retailer was only at this address for the year 1861. Mauveine purple was invented by the 18 year old William Henry Perkin in 1856.
