A teenage interest in all things ancient, especially early prints motivated Peter Lane to open the Adelaide gallery in 1976 after two years trading in London. The ambitious objective was to offer to Australians some artefact or object from all the known ancient cultures.
In 1981 the Gallery opened in Sydney and enjoyed 26 years of successful trading before deciding to relocate to Hobart in 2007.
Over 4 decades in the trade Peter developed expertise in early European & South East Asian textiles, antiquities, pre Colombian art, South and East Asian sculpture, old master prints, and hosted many exhibitions of Australian contemporary art.
The gallery has sold to museums and private collections locally and overseas.
We now operate by appointment in the central Hobart CBD area.
